Menopause and Bathing: What You Need to Know

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of shutting the bathroom door and slipping into a warm welcoming bath at the end of a long day. It’s the ultimate self-care ritual and a moment of peace and relaxation that you so deserve. But there are some important things to keep in mind when it comes to the science of bathing during your menopause journey to avoid common pitfalls. We’ve got you covered on all things menopauses and bathing. Here’s what you need to know.

pH Matters When it Comes to Hydration

Did you know that as we get older the pH of vaginal skin changes? Pre-menopausal vaginal pH ranges around 3.8-4.5 and increases throughout menopause becoming more alkaline to around 5.5 or even higher during post-menopause. Why does this matter? When pH rises, the acid mantle (a protective barrier against bacteria and infection) becomes disrupted and unable to function as effectively. This can result in dry and irritated intimate skin. When it comes to the pH of the products that come in contact with vaginal skin, it’s important to avoid high pH formulas which further disrupt the acid mantle causing even more dryness and irritation. Speaking of very alkaline (high pH) formulas… let’s bring our attention next to an unlikely culprit of irritation: bubble baths.

Enjoy Your Fizzy Bubble Baths? Think Again

Current bath products on the market do not specifically consider the particular needs of menopausal skin. And those “fizzy” or “bubbly” elements in a bath? They are formulated with ingredients that may be high in pH, which can cause vaginal dryness and irritation. No thanks! Remember how the acid mantle helps to protect against bacteria? Soaking in a high pH formula can weaken your vagina’s protective system and make you even more susceptible to urinary tract infections. You deserve a relaxing bath without having to worry about all this. Kindra’s got you covered.

Go With the Gold Standard So You Can Trust What You’re Soaking In

We specifically designed Soothe Bath Soak with your shifting vaginal pH in mind, while also supporting hydration, nourishment, and relief for reactive, painful, irritated, sensitive, dry skin. The formula’s pH is specifically not alkaline, so it doesn’t contribute to the tenderness you may already be experiencing down there, or on your body. Our formula is gentle and features the patent-pending Nourish-3 Complex which contains a clinically studied peptide shown to soothe irritated skin. Add onto that, Soothe contains natural sleep-supporting chamomile to provide anti-inflammatory properties and oat kernel extract for  omega-rich skin hydration. Your Lady V deserves the gold standard for her night-time ritual, so we created the perfect, silky soak, that’s also backed by science.
